Fall Foliage, Day 26 - Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain KOA, NY
I finished sleeping off the migraine and woke up late this morning to a relaxing start. Christian made oatmeal for us to eat outside in the 70º fall weather as we watched the campground empty around us.
We did a couple loads of laundry, then tried riding our bikes to a route listed on a brochure. It turned out the route was actually a road route, something that I’m not particularly comfortable with, so we rode around the campground instead (stopping for a bit at by the river and at the playground).
Then we drove up Whiteface Mountain, one the 46 high peaks of the Adirondacks (climbing all of them and becoming 46′ers is a new bucket list item for us).
The views were incredible! Every turn of the road there was another scenic view spot. At the top, we parked and hiked up the last bit.
There’s also a “castle” at the top of the mountain - it used to just be called the Upper Toll House, but someone suggested calling it a castle instead since England has castles smaller than this one:
Then we drove into the town of Lake Placid for dinner at Dancing Bears. Every restaurant was really overpriced, so we wound up splitting an appetizer and entree, which was actually just enough food to be satisfied if not “full”.
We walked along the main street for awhile, then stopped for some Ben & Jerry’s in anticipation of our factory visit later.
Back at the park, I re-dyed my hair (with Christian’s help to rinse it out in the sink) and we had a little quiet work time on the campground’s wifi.
